Under the Flood Control Act of 1944, construction began on the Clark Hill Dam in 1946 and was completed in 1950 at a cost of $79 Million. The dam was the first Corps of Engineers Flood Control Project built in the Savannah River Basin. The Clarks Hill Dam is 5,680 feet long, 200 feet high and consists of a concrete causeway flanked by earth embankments. More than one million cubic yards of concrete were used during its construction. |
