Wrecker Service/Person removing or storing the vehicle (if owner is unknown)

Request name & address of owner from law enforcement ordering removal

Within three (3) business days after removal

Wrecker Service/Person removing or storing the vehicle (if owner is unknown)

Notifies local law enforcement (in writing) that vehicle was removed from private property

Within three (3) business days after removal

Law Enforcement (if vehicle is stolen)

Notifies Georgia Crime Information Center

Within seventy-two (72) hours after receiving notice of vehicle being stolen.

Wrecker Service/Person removing or storing the vehicle (if owner is unknown)

If vehicle is not stolen, notifies owner and any security interest holder or lien holder.

Note: Notification to include location, fees & vehicle will be abandoned in thirty (30) days. Notice by certified or registered mail.

Within seven (7) calendar days after the vehicle’s removal or one (1) business day after information is furnished.

Law Enforcement (if vehicle is not stolen)

Provide name & address of owner to person removing or storing vehicle if information is available.

If owner information is not available, advises wrecker service/person.

Within three (3) business days of request.

Wrecker Service/Person removing or storing the vehicle (if owner does not redeem or vehicle being repaired or being stored by insurance company becomes abandoned)

Notifies Columbia County Motor Vehicle Office on form MV-603 with $2.00 fee.

Within seven (7) calendar days of the date the vehicle becomes abandoned.

Motor Vehicle Office

Provides a printout of tag & title information for vehicle VIN number recorded on form MV-603.

Provides MV-603A & notice to be mailed to the owner(s). Places a hold on vehicle record.

Every effort will be made to complete request within seven (7) days of receipt.

Wrecker Service/Person removing or storing the vehicle (once information is received from Motor Vehicle Office)

Notifies owner, lessors, lessees, security interest holders & lien holders by certified to registered mail of location of vehicle, & that vehicle is abandoned & will be disposed of if not redeemed.

Within five (5) calendar days.

Wrecker Service/Person removing or storing the vehicle (If the Motor Vehicle Office has no information regarding owner)

Advertise in paper of general circulation in county where vehicle was obtained or if no newspaper, post at the county courthouse.

One (1) time a week for two (2) consecutive weeks.

Motor Vehicle Office in Atlanta (Notice of abandonment)

Provide information regarding abandoned vehicle to the National Crime Information Center.

Wrecker Service/Person removing or storing the vehicle (after final disposition of vehicle)

Notifies the Motor Vehicle Office by sending applicable copy of MV-603

Within seven (7) days after final disposition of vehicle

Motor Vehicle Office

Removes hold from vehicle VIN number when disposition copy of MV-603 form is received.
