POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the repair and maintenance of the stormwater lines.  The work involves operating light machinery to carry out tasks without constant supervision and providing functional supervision over senior utility service worker as well as utility service workers. The purpose of the job is to repair and maintain the stormwater system.  Effective performance in the job facilitates the accurate and timely repair to the stormwater systems.  Errors on the job may result in costly delays in repairs and restoration of service.

The work is subject to the guidelines of EPA, AWWA, and the state of Georgia EPD.  The individual jobs are determined by written work orders.  The guidelines are clear and specific but require some interpretation in application.

Contacts are typically with co-workers, general public, other utility workers, and contractors

The work typically requires bending, crouching, stooping, walking, and standing. The work also requires frequent lifting of both light (less than 25 pounds) and heavy (more than 25 pounds) objects.

The work is performed outdoors and exposes the incumbent to much dirt, dust, grease, cold and/or inclement weather, contagious diseases, and machinery.  The work may require the use of protective devices such as masks and gloves.

Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations. Sufficient experience to understand the principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having a similar position for two years. The incumbent is required to have a valid Driver’s License, a Commercial Drivers License is preferred. 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Repairs and maintains stormwater systems.

Operates light machinery necessary to perform tasks (e.g., backhoes, ditch witch, compacting equipment, etc.)

Locates stormwater lines.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of stormwater repair methods.

 Knowledge of proper safety procedures in completing work assignments.

Knowledge of county stormwater line locations.

Skill in operating light machinery necessary to carry out work assignments (e.g., backhoes, ditch witch, compacting equipment, etc.)

Skill in the use of standard tools (e.g., wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.)

 DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations. Sufficient experience to understand the principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having a similar position for two years. The incumbent is required to have a valid Driver’s License, a Commercial Drivers License is preferred.
