POSITION SUMMARY
The available position is for a Heavy Equipment Section Supervisor. The tasks of this position include but are not limited to the repair of heavy equipment, heavy duty trucks, lawn maintenance equipment and the oversite of the repairs made by others in this section. The position is responsible for the communication between the Heavy Equipment Section and the end users/department managers throughout the county. The position requires the ability to work in various environments and positions such as: sitting, crouching, standing, bending, etc. for prolonged periods of time. The ability to work in varying conditions is a must with work taking place in a shop and outside. This position requires the supervisor to use computer diagnostics and computer based fleet management software.

A high school diploma or GED equivalency is required. Applicant must possess or have the ability to obtain (4) ASE certifications within the (6) month probation period. Secondary and/or post-secondary training is desired but not required for this position. On-the-job training or apprentice/internship will be required if applicant does not have formal secondary/post-secondary training. Incumbent must complete a 6 month probationary period. Ability to obtain a Class 4 Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 6 months of probationary period is required. All applicants are required to have necessary tools to perform assigned tasks.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Scheduling, directing and oversight of the activities of subordinate positions and assigned resources to reduce vehicle/equipment downtimes and increase efficiencies for the section and department.

Performs diagnostic and corrective mechanical maintenance on equipment and trucks, including diesel engines, hydraulic repair; electrical repair and various degrees of engine repair.

Performs preventative maintenance.

Welds various objects and fabricates parts used to repair heavy equipment such as repairing the water receptacle for herbicide truck, sign racks for grass crew, etc.

Computer input and completion of work orders/data according to service rendered.

Orders parts for repairs and completes and signs work order as to service rendered.

Performs diagnostic and corrective maintenance on heavy trucks, tractors, lawn equipment, patrol cars, etc.

Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to communicate and coordinate with section employees and other departments to ensure timely and complete repair

Ability to use computer based systems including data entry and email

Knowledge of all systems of the automobile. These systems include but are not limited to: brakes, suspension, electrical, engine and drivetrains.

Proficient with diagnostic equipment and various types of automotive lifts and hoists. This job also requires some welding and metal working skill as it relates to vehicle repair.

Ability to be available to work short notice overtime and emergency on-call shifts as needed.

Ability to be willing to continue training as required. This training includes but is not limited to local classroom style training, manufacture based conferences as well as online training.

Ability to read, write and do basic math equations as those skills relate to service manuals, work orders and general automotive maintenance and repair.

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent. Specialized training and sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an
apprenticeship/internship or having a similar position for two to four years. Possession or the ablility to attain (4) ASE certifications within 6 months of date of hire. Possession or ability to readily obtain a valid commercial drivers license (CDL) class 4 within 6 months of date of hire. Possession of or the ability to readily obtain Air Conditioning Recovery Certification and necessary hand tools are required.
